Local Area Information:
Located approximately 12 miles East of the popular tourist destination of Branson, Forsyth serves as the county seat. Steeped rich in history this part of the Ozark Region was originally deep inside the Osage Indian Realm, seized and controlled by Confederate forces, burned by Union troops and during the reign of the Bald Knobbers the Courthouse was totally destroyed along with any county records. In 1837 Taney County was created but it wasn’t until 1845 that Forsyth became the permanent seat of justice for Taney County. In December of 1890 the Village of Forsyth was incorporated. In the mid-1950’s Forsyth was moved 2 miles west to its current location when plans were made for the construction of a dam on the White River.
